What New York credits and deductions does FileYourStateTaxes not support this year?
Currently, the tool does not support:
- NYS Child and Dependent Care Credit
- Real Property Tax Credit To qualify for this credit, you must have total household income less than $18,000 and have paid property taxes on a home you own in New York or paid rent of no more than $450 per month.
- College tuition credit or itemized deduction
- NYS Earned Income Credit for parents who do not live with their children (non-custodial). Parents who do live with their children can claim the NYS Earned Income Credit using FileYourStateTaxes.
- Volunteer firefighters’ and ambulance workers’ credit
- Long-term care insurance credit

Subtractions claimed on IT-225 including:
- Military combat pay
- Native American Income Exclusion
- HELP loan interest
- Student loan forgiveness award
- Health care and mental hygiene worker bonuses
Other credits, deductions and resources not supported this year:
- Itemized deductions
- Change in filing status from federal to state
- Estimated tax, extension payments, and prior year credit forward
Additionally, you cannot use FileYourStateTaxes to:
- Claim estimated taxes paid in 2023
- Claim credits you want to carry over from a prior year tax return. For example, if you claimed a nonrefundable credit last year that was greater than your taxes owed, you cannot use this tool to claim the remainder of that prior year credit.
- Make voluntary contributions directly on your tax return
