How can I check the status of my North Carolina state or federal refund?
Federal
You can check the status of your federal refund at the IRS' Where's My Refund 72 hours after the IRS has accepted your e-filing.
To verify your information, you must provide:
- your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
- federal filing status, and
- exact federal refund amount located on Line 35a of your federal tax return (Form 1040).
Please note that this IRS site allows you to track the status of your 2022, 2023, 2024 federal refunds.

North Carolina
You can check the status of your North Carolina state refund on the North Carolina Department of Revenue website here.
To verify your information, you must provide:
- your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), and
- your refund amount from Line 34 of your state tax return (North Carolina Form D-400)
